# Examples

> The starter and the three finished projects decktalk init writes, and what each one teaches.

`decktalk init` writes the starter unless `--example` names another project. Each one builds with no
account and no spend, the motion example once its program is allowed, and each is a whole project to
read and change.

| Example | Command | What it shows | Read with |
| - | - | - | - |
| starter | `decktalk init my-lesson` | Three sections on one page: reveals on their words, a step back and a return, a formula in KaTeX and a line that lights word by word. | [Quickstart](/quickstart) |
| lesson | `decktalk init --example lesson my-lesson` | A finished lesson of about two minutes on how a model learns, on a page of its own. | [Lessons](/use-cases/lessons) |
| interview | `decktalk init --example interview my-interview` | A narrator and a guest, two voices, whose second section is a dialogue with each turn its own take. | [Write a dialogue](/guides/dialogue) |
| motion | `decktalk init --example motion my-motion` | Motions in the markup and from a script, a loop, a spring, and a render section whose picture a program draws. | [Things that move](/guides/motion) |

Build any of them the same way, from inside the project:

```console theme={null}
decktalk build --no-spend
```

The motion example's third section is a render section, and its program runs only on a machine that
allows it. Read `render/draw_bars`, then allow it for one run:

```console theme={null}
decktalk build --no-spend --set record.programs=run
```

Without it the build is refused before its first stage with an `INPUT` error naming the program.
[Pages and programs you did not write](/reference/trust#programs-a-project-names) says how far a
program is trusted.

Every example plays a placeholder where a voice would be, because no voice id is set. To voice one,
set each `[voices.NAME] id` in `decktalk.toml` and put your ElevenLabs key in `.env`, as the
[quickstart](/quickstart) shows.
